Palliative Care

Improving the Quality of Life at the End of Life

Medical care at the end of life accounts for over 10% of total health care spending, and 27% of the Medicare budget.

Using hospice services, versus emergency resuscitation or ventilation in an ICU, and employing advanced directives can save between 25% and 40% of healthcare expense during the last month of life.  Costs aside, patients and caregivers who discuss end of life strategies with their providers are viewed to have died more peacefully – not sooner nor later – having been able to address personal needs and quality of life issues.

APS Healthcare’s palliative services work to ensure an appropriate transition of patients and caregivers into hospice and palliative care settings with the goal of improving the quality of life at the end of life.

An extension of APS’ successful disease and case management services, our palliative services provide support for patients, families, caregivers and practitioners.
