Florida Prior Service Authorization for Developmental Disabilities

APS Healthcare performs prior service authorization reviews for individuals enrolled in and receiving services funded by the Florida Developmental Disabilities Home and Community-Based Services Waiver (DD/HCBS), Family and Supported Living (FSL) Waiver and the Consumer Directed Care Plus (CDC+) 1115 Waiver programs through Florida's Agency for Persons with Disabilities.

The process ensures services are based on medical necessity and includes a review of support plans, cost plans and related documentation for these individuals. APS reviews initial and continuing service requests and determines whether the waiver program is the most appropriate funding source for the services identified and requested.

APS completed more than 40,000 reviews during the first year of operation. In addition to completing prior service authorization reviews, APS offers an extensive training program with area/district office staff and daily technical assistance on issues related to prior service authorizations for persons with developmental disabilities.
